Pond Plants -Bog
Bog plants for the pond are not just for beauty they also assist the water garden's ecosystem by using excess nutrients in the water that would otherwise feed pond algae. Also known as marginal water plants, bog plants are located around the pond perimeter in shallow water. These plants thrive in water levels that vary anywhere from a couple of inches to a couple of inches of water above the container.
Some well known aquatic bog plants for the pond are cattail, horsetail, water iris and arrowhead. These are winter hardy in northern climates. Marginal plants that are very popular tropical choices, include Taro, Canna, Umbrella Palm and Papyrus. These flourish in ponds but must be brought indoors for the winter in cold climates.
