Aerators for ponds and lakes add oxygen to the water which can sustain fish populations during hot, summer months. Aerators can also assist in algae control by reducing the organic matter that algae feeds from.
There are two main types of pond or water garden aerators- (1) surface fountains and (2) bottom-based aerators. Surface fountains effectively aerate the surface water and add aesthetic beauty with their water displays. Bottom aerators will provide a more uniform oxygen level throughout the entire pond or lake but do not add visual beauty to the pond. Ponds or lakes with heavy fish loads, algae problems and warm, humid summers must have adequate aeration.
